Fall is just around the corner which means the Holidays are not far behind. You will want to start thinking about getting your family photos done for your Holiday cards and choosing the right amount of time can make all the difference. This is the time when photographers start to advertise "mini sessions" where you can book a quick 15 minute slot vs a typical 1 hour slot, but which one is right for you? Let’s break down the differences and help you decide!

The One-Hour Photo Session
1. In-Depth Experience
- More Time for Creativity: With a full hour, we have ample time to explore various poses, settings, and interactions. This allows for a more relaxed atmosphere where we can experiment with different looks and ideas.
- Detailed Planning: We can take the time to set up each shot carefully, ensuring everything is perfect and capturing more intricate details that reflect your family’s personality or the special aspects of your maternity journey.
2. Variety and Flexibility
- Multiple Outfits and Locations: An hour provides the flexibility to change outfits or move between different locations, adding variety to your photo collection. Whether you want some shots at home and others at a nearby park, or a wardrobe change for different styles, we’ve got you covered.
- Capturing Genuine Moments: Longer sessions allow us to capture natural, candid moments as everyone settles into the experience. This often results in more authentic and heartwarming images.
3. Stress-Free Experience
- Less Pressure: To me, this one is the most important (especially if you have children). The extended time frame means you won’t feel rushed. We can work around any mood swings or breaks needed, making the session more enjoyable and less stressful. Forced smiles never really come out well in photos and sometimes it takes kids a few minutes to warm up to feeling comfortable in front of a camera. As your photographer I want you to be excited about the images we create with the goal being a happy smiling family on a canvas hanging up in your living room.

The 15-Minute Mini Session
1. Quick and Efficient
- Perfect for Busy Schedules: If you’re short on time or looking for a quick update to your family photos, a mini session is ideal. It’s a great option for those who want to capture a specific moment without committing to a longer session.
- Focused and Fast-Paced: The shorter duration means we’ll focus on getting a few high-quality shots in a concise timeframe. It’s an efficient way to get beautiful photos without the need for extensive planning.
2. Ideal for Young Children or Special Occasions
- Great for Kids: If you have young children who may not have the patience for a longer session, a mini session can be perfect. It’s short enough to keep their attention and still get great results.
- Seasonal or Special Themes: Mini sessions are often themed around holidays or specific occasions, making them a fun and festive option for capturing those special moments.
3. Affordable Option
- Cost-Effective: With a shorter time commitment, mini sessions are often more budget-friendly, making them a great choice for families looking to get professional photos without a significant investment.

Which Session Is Right For You?
Choosing between a one-hour session and a mini session depends on your needs, preferences, and what you hope to achieve with your photos.
- Go for the One-Hour Session If: You want a variety of images, have multiple outfit changes or locations in mind, or prefer a more relaxed and thorough photo experience, and most importantly are confident your children are able to achieve smiling faces in a short amount of time.
- Opt for the Mini Session If: You’re looking for a quick update, have a tight schedule, or want to capture a specific moment with minimal fuss.
No matter which session you choose, my goal is to create beautiful, lasting memories for you and your loved ones. If you’re still unsure, feel free to reach out with any questions or to discuss which option might be the best fit for your family’s needs.
